The Best of 2017
With 2017 winding down, Rod and I want to thank all of the amazing couples and clients we worked with this year. We've had an exciting year and it's all because of the people and communities we work with.
Throughout the year, we DJ'd so many amazingly fun weddings. We couldn't have felt more lucky to have met the great couples we did, and I think it's safe to say that the couples enjoyed it as well. Here are a few snippets from their reviews:
2017 has been so much more than just amazing gigs though. At the beginning of this year, Nerd vs Geek DJ Services underwent a big re-think. We refocused what we wanted to be and do. Sure, we still want to DJ and bring fun times to weddings, but we also wanted to add more meaning to what we do. At so many weddings, we hear about the importance of the community that's gathered, which struck a chord with us. So we made the community the center of our business and started to work from there.
We’ve committed that for every gig we book, we donate $15 to Aspen Family Services and another $15 to a charity that's part of our client's community. Last week, we transferred the funds and donated $330 to charities including Aspen Family Services, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Calgary, Antyx Community Arts Society, Calgary Zoological Society, YMCA, Alzheimer Society Canada, and Diabetes Canada. We really couldn’t be happier about this accomplishment.
We also joined some local organizations (REAP and Calgary Bridal Alliance). This helps cement our place in the local and local wedding community. We switched to as many local suppliers as possible including switching our banking to First Calgary, getting our gasoline from Centex, and choosing local options for various supplies and gifts (my personal favourites being the glamorous wedding cards we get from Wrinkle and Crease and elegant bonbons from The Chocolate Lab). These changes bring us to 56% local suppliers (up from 38% in 2016). We also took some steps to further reduce our paper waste and carbon emissions by cutting down on physical packages for couples in favour of e-packages, using electronic contracts, and using tele-conferencing or green transportation to get to client-side consultations.
We have big plans for 2018 brewing already - we hope to continue to build a strong community using music to bring people together (and, hopefully, to dance). If you know someone getting married, or throwing a party of any sort, we hope that you recommend Nerd vs Geek DJ Services. And, we’d love to work with more charities next year, so please pass our name on to anyone you know. (More information can be found on our website: https://www.nerd-vs-geek.com/our-community/)
May you continue to experience the child-like freedom that good music and dancing brings!
